Re: My intuition about the origin of my "gout"
Indeed, very interesting!
Yesterday the podiatrist, who I went to see again, said it's an infection
I have, not gout (he never did say gout, I merely thought it was as it
seemed to act like it). I had a blood test for gout and it came up negative; in
fact, very low for uric acid. But it's the oddest thing--the top of my
foot near my pinky toe is red and inflamed, and the entire foot (top
plus pinky toe) has been swollen. He put me on an antibiotic, something
I am very, very loath to do, but in this case, I capitulated, as I have
had it for an entire month and did not want to risk the infection spreading.
Evidently my immune system is down, and it was down when I got shingles--
how I got such a thing, I will never know (yes, I know it's from
chicken pox, and that it hangs out in your nerve sheath, etc.) as I
didn't even get so much as a sore throat since May '05 and didn't use
even 1/2 hr. sick time all year (a first for me) and then bingo!
shingles, for 5 weeks, and right after, this weird foot thing. I know I'm
probably going to take flak from MH for confessing to taking antibiotics,
but it's just a short course (5 days' worth) and then I'll be done. And
if the problem continues, I will know it's something else. But the swelling
is already down so hopefully I'm on the right track! I had been taking
(and still am) olive leaf extract since last August or Sept. and now am
using oregano oil, so really not sure how shingles and then a foot
infection took hold, unless I am not taking nearly enough of the olive
leaf.
