Re: Candida Diets: Part III: Bacillus Subtilis
Thanks for posting those. Those are all ones that I'm familiar with.
The last one was based on German soldiers observing North Africans during WWII consuming fresh camel droppings to cure dysentery caused by a bacterial infection, Shigella. Nothing else compared to the antibacterial action of the camel droppings which they later attributed to the effect from B. subtilis killing the bacterium, Shigella.
Anything that creates such disruptive changes in the body can cause an immune response. This is common with E. coli, Klebsiella pneumococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and B. subtilis. Destroying the cells of the body and the bacterial flora isn't the choice that I would make for producing an immunostimulatory response.
I have always considered the first study to be especially concerning as it once again highlights how B. subtilis kills Candida albicans, which has been shown time and time again to create antifungal resistant strains. This is just one of the reasons that the initial effect can be good, but then later on the problems return. What was most striking about that study was the hemolytic effect of the Bacillus toxin. This means that the Bacillus toxin can rupture red blood cells.
The second study highlights how little is still known about the Bacillus effects, but the fact that it has a mitogenic effect can potentially mean that it can cause unregulated cell growth, such as those seen in cancers.
Thanks for posting these. I didn't want to post the first two studies just yet, as it still seems to early to talk about the ability of bacillus to cause cancer and destroy red blood cells, but that remains a possibility for people to be aware of.
