You make some excellent points. I very much agree with you that the whole idea of a good forum is to allow different point of view to come forward.

If intimidation, ridicule, and subtle (and not so subtle) insults are allowed to rule and the majority group together to insult the minority voice, the forum becomes a free for all.

I agree. In the end, all is opinion. And what we think of a scientific study is our opinion. A lot of times, people are fond of stating that their belief is "fact". But what is fact, other than the prevailing belief of that person / group / time period? Sometimes people are so "married" to their beliefs that they become closed off to any theories or ideas that oppose their prevailing belief system.
