Re: Not all of your symptoms are caused by Mirena
I had my Mirena for about 2 years. In that time I suffered. I mean, really suffered. Physically, emotionally, spiritually – you name it. And my family suffered, too. My kids were miserable and my husband nearly left me on numerous occasions. Every time a new symptom would pop up (and by new, I mean I’d never experienced it before…ever), I would research it. I would go to the doctor and get yet more tests done. The only ones that ever came back abnormal were the vitamin tests, which showed that my levels were severely low.
Aside from getting the Mirena itself, NOTHING about my lifestyle had changed. I still ate the same foods, did the same amount of activity (until I was so fatigued that I couldn’t even tolerate that) and took no other medication of any kind. And yet, within such a short amount of time, I felt like I had aged years, even decades. If all of that were anything in the realm of normal (whether as a result of age, natural hormone fluctuations, or some relatively common disease or illness), I’m absolutely positive that we women would have known about it long ago.
I KNOW that Mirena was the cause of all of my issues. And now, at 3 months post, I am 90-95% back to normal and still getting better (except for those periods of the ‘crash’, which have happened right around the time when others have experienced them). That is not even possibly a coincidence.
Also, I’m not convinced that you’ve dealt with this like we have. If you had, your tone itself would have been one of empowerment. Not of criticism and demeaning negativity. There’s enough of that in the world, and we don’t need it here.
The irony of your post, though, is that the very mentality that you suggest is the one that led us all here, in one way or another. We have listened to our bodies. We have had the tests. We have found the solution.
Ultimately, not enough is known about the Mirena and its causes (both direct and indirect) to, in good conscience, manufacture, market and insert this device. I believe completely that the Mirena causes so much more suffering and pain than anyone anywhere can fathom. And to those who are debating it as an option, are the ‘benefits’ at all worth the risk that WE are right?? From someone who’s been on both sides of the issue, NO. Not in the slightest.
