Re: Pseudotumour Cerebri - Headaches, Vision Loss/Double Vision, Body pain.
I am a 35 year old healthy active woman. I had the Mirena IUD inserted 2 years ago, and my health has been awful. It started with a severe gallbladder attack about a 6 months after it was inserted. I have absoluely NO libido whatsoever at this point, and I am always tired. Seven months ago, I woke up with pulsatile tinnitus (the sound of my heartbeat) in my left ear. It has not stopped since. I have been to many doctors, and have been told that they are pretty sure it is psedotumor cerebri. I have double vision sometimes, I have headaches (not awful migraines, but a steady flow of headaches). I have numbness in my arms sometimes, and my periferal vision is terrible. I coudn't believe that I found these posts, as my neuroradiologist asked me if I was on birth control when he told me he suspected this disease. I said no, but I have Mirena, which releases hormones into my body. He didn't come right out and blame the Mirena, but it makes alot of sense to me. He told me that my MRI showed that I have a large empty space around my pituitary gland, which is not normal for someone of my age. I am having the Mirena removed this week, and am hoping for a reversal of my symptoms. I still can't believe the amount of information linking Mirena to the Pseudotumore cerebri. If any of you see this post, please write back to me to tell me how you are now. Thanks~ glassbyheather@hotmail.com
