Re: Overenthusiastic thyroid response to iodine

RobertAm.. I stopped all thyroid meds, Iodine and supplements for a month. About 24 hours after I stopped taking everything I could feel a difference, didn't have to glup to get air. The swelling would come back when I ate spinach, or shrimp, so I did food elimination for about a week. The sleeping problems lasted about 5 days, couldn't fall asleep until 3/4 in the morning, and then would go all day without being tired ( very odd for a hypo thyroid person!). After a month, I re-introduced a small amount of Iodoral, half a pill. No thyroid meds at all. I waited two more months, increasing Iodoral each week/ 10 days by half a tablet, until I was told by my doctor to begin adding the thyroid med again. I am now up to 3 pills of Iodoral and a small dose of NDT.

For me, I could actually feel my thyroid "grabbing" the iodine, almost like a clicking or loading feeling. After the second start on the Iodoral, I did get a mild feeling of shortness of breath, but as long as I didn't rush the increase of Iodine it would even out after a day or two.

Had I known about the companion supplements, I might have had a smoother start.

Hope that helps answer your question...
