gastroenterologist
Hi there fellow seekers.I am writing to share my experience. I feel lucky to have found this forum.
I went to the doctor today. I had been feeling sick for about two weeks. Today I was actualy feeling better. My symptoms were abdominal pain, diahrea, gas, a burning sensation, joint pain, pain after eating, gurgling in the gut, confusion and anxiety.
I told the doctor I had had no previous diagnosis, though I had seen a GE in the past for colitis like symptoms. He is having me take some tests and told me to take Florastor and gave me a sample.
I told him that I had taken high doses of vitamin c (7-10 grams/day) right before this happened. I did not mention that I had a
colonic also and afterwards watched what looked like my stomach lining( a reddish brown mucus-y thing) wash down the toilet.
He is testing me for IBD,Giardia,Celiac,
parasite and some standard blood stuff.
He said to call for results in a week and that he thinks I "got a bug".
No colonoscopy, no endoscopy. It was reassuring. I don't know what some of the tests are for. I doubt the
parasite or celiac(stool) tests can be considered conclusive. For one thing, I stopped eating gluten years ago.
I am finding the thing that helps the most is learning what I can and following some of the tried and true methods I learned about here. Going to the doctor made my family feel better, though.
