Re: o/t~ gluten free for 2 1/2 weeks :) !!!
>>"Is this the "NPN" that I've read about?"<<
There are many sources of NPN, however, yes.. this is one of them.
>>"Do you use a refractometer, still?"<<
Not often... I can go by sight, smell, feel (firm, while still ripe, heavy for their size, etc.) and taste now... and I do get a great deal of excellent home grown foods, especially fruits and nuts.
>>"And what grains do you consume?"<<
Mostly, quinoa, and Wild Rice; also buckwheat, millet, brown rice, and on occasion, oats.
>>"My response to not consuming gluten has been amazing. Now, this is after a period of time in which I've been heavily glutenitized(is that a word?), thanks to my husband's aforementioned months-long baking binge.
If that's the case these days, with gluten, then I think I'll nix it permanently. I can't see us growing wheat:) Actually, I can see us growing it, just not harvesting or processing....
I do know that people have developed high-protein wheats over time, I did not know that the NPK fertilizer was a factor in this, I thought that they were just cross-breeding different wheat strains."<<
The people eating these high protein, higher gluten grains, were the ones Christopher and other *natural* healers encountered during their lives... and it affected the way they thought of things even though they may not have understood what was happening to the foods people were consuming... i.e. increased nitrogen content, mutations of the plants creating greater NPN content, etc.
