Ah. Sorry.

I didn't word that correctly. His situation of being extremely fatigued and not afraid is indicative of true hypoglycemia (there's a difference between reactive and true).

It sounds to me like his body was shutting off "non-essential" processes one by one to keep him alive.

This is the purpose of passing out when your glucose falls too low. It's ironically to try and save your life by shutting down all non-essential bodily functions to conserve glucose until the level is raised. Sometimes the body can correct itself, but in cases of insulin injection by diabetics the body can't overcome it.
