Two reasons or maybe three reasons depending on the Se.
One it eats up methylation cycles which are low or non existent, two the Se will loose the Hg bond and finally the Se is left in an oxidized state after the Hg bond is dropped.

As for T's article...well they seem to not know about ALA...enough said... nothing new for me, posts going back 3 years on this subject...
