Hemorrhoids healed by chili peppers?

There are many in my country (Brasil) that swear by it. The treatment is the following:

Swallow (like a capsule) one cumari pepper (which is very small and quite hot) with meals until the hemorrhoids heal. They worsen in the beginning but clear after some days. Many said they healed completely after doing it.
