Some of the confusion might come from the fact that mainstream news is not reporting the nuclear meltdown in Japan this way.

People sometimes still believe the slant that mainstream news presents, and this clashes with the reality before us, causing confusion and even distress in many people.

As the Gaurdian says, the reactor really did melt through the containment vessel and drop into the containment pool below.

I have not heard this reported on "mainstream news"... which should tell us all something about mainstream news being mostly propagandist lies and off-target slant [or cute animal stories].

The truth will be known in radiation levels. Japan could soon become the "Land of the Setting Sun", due to the nuclear power industry.
