The reason I think my hypoglycemia isn't due to a pancreatic tumor is because my problems started out in early 2005 with severe panic attacks. I'm talking hallucinating that I'm dieing and that people are out to get me. It is a very similar feeling to hypoglycemic panic, but without the innate feeling that I need to eat or I'll die.
I had run myself into the ground with alcohol, literally not a day off from work in a whole calendar year, isolation from people and living in the ghetto. I was in pure hell, and I believe my adrenals crashed and have been screwed up ever since.
However, to counter myself there, anytime my pancreas is called on too much it hurts SEVERELY. If I don't eat enough fat, too much protein or any carbs really at all the pancreas has extreme problems keeping up and I have severe pain that mimics pancreatitis.
I'm extremely fatigued all the time. Last summer my problem was so bad that my heart was skipping beats several times per minute. 3 friends of mine all had the same dream that I was dieing, and I had a dream I was dieing as well. I had to overload myself with salt and potassium supplements to make it go away, but even then it would only work for a few hours.
For some reason this doesn't happen anymore unless I eat too much sodium.
My muscles don't want to work, probably because they can't utilize energy properly anymore. I can only tolerate maybe 30 grams of protein total in one day, and only about 10 per meal. Anything more and I get diabetic like complications on my feet (pain, numbness) and severe reactive hypoglycemia.
Ironically I can generally fast from 5:30pm until 7:30am overnight. To me this indicates that the adrenals are producing just enough cortisol (although probably still low) at night to antagonize insulin and keep the blood glucose stable enough to fast, while during the day the cortisol is so low that insulin just keeps flowing and my sugars drop.
Cortisol is supposed to antagonize insulin and tells the pancreas to shut it off so glucose remains stable.
