Re: I lived in Poland when Chernobyl disaster happened and I'm OK
"worry" is a relative term. Am I worried about this *one* event? Yes, I am; for all of the people in and around it, I am. They are and will be profoundly affected for years to come, perhaps decades and through several generations.
I am also concerned about it as it is a major regional environmental catastrophe... as big as BP less than a year ago? Time will tell...
Am I also concerned that these events seem to be escalating in frequency, and perhaps magnitude? Yes, that too... many religious texts including the Bible warned of these things... caused by man's folly.
The writing is on the wall.
Am I worried for myself and family, thousands of miles away? For a different reason, yes, albeit less so.
Cumulative exposures to all manner of pollutants, from here, or abroad, including any radioactivity, has a way of catching up with us, our children, grandchildren, etc... whether it is realized as an immediate threat or not.
While the exposure may matter little to none to me, it is an exposure to pollutants none the less, and another dispersal of pollutant that further stresses the environment.
I have seen one too many bodies of water flip overnight due to one drop too much of one thing or another... there is only so much the environment can take before it no longer will support life.
I guess we can be grateful these things thus far have primarily been regional as with the desertification of land, ocean dead zones, along with their huge plastic islands, toxic leaking landfills into the water tables and soils, etc.
I hope you remain okay.
