Totally agree with all that!

But hopefully those men on the boat became believers that day after seeing the power of God. It sounds like they did. At first when the boat started to rock, it says each of them prayed to their own god.
But as things got worse and they became more afraid, they prayed to Jonah's God:

Jonah 1:

14Therefore they called out to the LORD, "O LORD, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you." 15So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging. 16Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows.


Which if that was the case, Jonah's rebellion against God worked for the good for these men.
