 I said it's safe.

Everything has side effects, including water in sufficient quantity.

You said used for over 100 years without incident.  That is a BIG difference.  Your statement implies that there are no side effects, which is not the case.

The fact is that taking things the body would normally produce on its own will shut down the body's production of that substance.  And yes the body can eventually recover, but it should not have to recover.  The body should be encouraged to generate its own enzymes like it is designed to do and as our bodies have been doing since human have existed.  A simple method of doing this is with digestive bitters, which when they contact the tongue increases stomach acid, bile and digestive enzyme output.  Juniper berries are also excellent for strengthening the pancreas and helping to produce its enzymes.
