Many are brainwashed into believing they are calcium-deficient, and that popping a pill is the answer. Some wonder why people are so easily brainwashed into such belief - can't they think ? The conditioning process begins as soon as baby starts walking and touches something mommy doesn't want them to touch. A slap on the butt, the word "no" and so begins what is for many a life long journey of being told what , and what not to do. That's most of us. Later, TV, magazines, and friends coax others into popping pills. It's peer pressure.

Calcium supplements are worthless to me. Neat calcium put in the stomach, even "chelated" calcium is handled in a way that doesn't enable it to be transported to other organs, such as the large intestine. These forms of calcium are ionic, and enter directly into the bloodstream where they disrupt zeta potential, requiring albumin to be consumed in their sequestration. It never makes it to the large intestine, where it is needed. The walls of the large intestine are constantly dying, there is a special layer all over it which is very thin and which regenerates very quickly if provided with enough calcium. If not, it is a compromised layer in which all sorts of nasty things can happen , including "leaky gut" and cancer. It needs calcium. Calcium hydroxide / calcium pills dont get it there.

To get calcium there, one needs pectin, which is in fruit, such as apples. Pectin is like a large chicken wire net molecule, which has a calcium in the holes. When you eat it, there are enzymes and acids in the stomach but they can't tear the net apart. Neither can the small intestine's enzymes, even amylases, because the net is cellulosic in nature. Rather, bacteria in the large intestine CAN, and do, chomp the net and release the calcium that was transported by the pectin to the large intestine, where the calcium becomes incorporated in the intestinal wall. The bacteria in the large intestine are essential to life and are just as integral to the body as are the lungs, heart, etc. The pectin serves as the food for these bacteria. If you're not getting pectin, guess what ? Your bacteria population will dwindle.

So, I eat apples. What's this got to do with Iodine ? Remember, 30% of the total body weight of iodine is contained in the organs, which includes the intestines. Iodine is not calcium obviously. But we do know that the large intestine needs pectin. My guess is that the gut of a person who is pectin deficient isn't digesting efficiently, no matter how much iodine they ingest. Calcium pills ? No. Apples, yes. My digestion has been quite well, for many years. I can't remember ever supplementing with a calcium pill.
