From my understanding, from having discussed this with many Aboriginal elders and friends, the Wanjina are not seen as gods/god, they are entities that are formed of pure energy. They can be good or evil, and they have been around for a long time, before humans.

I have found that it is important not to look at the beliefs and spiritual knowledge of Indigenous Australians, through the filter of western theology, or religious views.
