Re: Depression

Whats your opinion on GABA for depression? I have used it in the past with some good results, but is it ok for people with candida overgrowth?

I love GABA for certain conditions such as seizures, schizophrenia, OCD, ADHD, etc,. because it functions primarily as a neurotransmitter inhibitor.  So it will help with stress as well, but I would not use it for depression since most cases of depression involve low levels of neurotransmitters. Suppressing the activity of the remaining neurotransmitters is not always a good idea.

One thing about GABA though it that due to its large size it is poorly absorbed. Taurine and glycine are better absorbed due to their smaller sizes and they do the same thing. Taurine is a better choice if you also suffer from low stomach acidity as the taurine increases stomach acid. Glycine is the best absorbed overall and helps with the healing of tissues.

None of these feed Candida.
