Re: Schisandra and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

i totally agree with you. many of those who precribe herbs are not medical doctors and do not how the herbs can affect the body. one major problem is that herbs have not been studied properly and have been tested to assess the effects and/or problems they may cause. unfortunately we are the guinea pigs. most natural specialists are doubting that the ashwagandha caused my thyrotoxicosis. hell, is says that it caused thyrotoxicosis in lab rats in Wikipedia and the report of it happening with a Dutch woman is all over the internet. no one really knows how many herbs work in the first place, so to say that ashwagandha does not cause thyrotoxicosis is contradicting empirical evidence.

i was told by an alternative doctor that nothing herbal comes close to anything medicinal (pharmaceutical). i beg to differ as well, as i have had dramatic improvements in my health with herbs, and have also suffered setbacks as well. its all individual, but the use of herbs, especially when taken with medications is not to be done so in a blind fashion. one must do the reasearch. in the end, we end up guinea pigging ourselves because the allopathic and alternative communities fail to come together and help people who are truly sick. instead they just fight with each other. its a shame because we suffer while they bicker.
