Eyebright formula question...

I've been using Dr. Shulze's Eyebright Formula for a week and I've noticed a difference already (was diagnosed with macular degeneration at age 55 (I'll be 67 in July) and the beginning of cateracts at 63). What's happening is that the blurriness (from the cateracts I imagine) is clearing up. I can now look in my eyes and see them (they were blurry) Anyway, my question is...does leaving the cup with the eyebright in it on the eye for a minute or more increase the effectiveness? And would drinking the mixture after it has been on your eyes be helpful too or is that just for cleaning the eyes? I haven't done that but I just wondered if it would help. I think I read earlier that some people take the Eyebright formula internally too.
