Re: First water fast - can I have vitamins?
André,
Orthomolecular is a term that comes from ortho, which is Greek for "correct" or "right," and "molecule," which is the simplest structure that displays the characteristics of a compound. So it literally means the "right molecule."
A term coined by Linus Pauling.
This method of healthcare/recovery is endorsed by a wide variety of qualified Doctors and based on clinical experience and evidence of its efficacy.
This isn't a debate forum but I do respect your views.
However, there is a fundamental difference between quality supplements and medicines/drugs/
Antibiotics .
Your comment..............
"no real difference between "supplements" and any other form of medicine, including
Antibiotics . They have a place in acute disease but none that I know of in health".
In response to that I would say.............
#1.Nutrients are essential to life, and cannot be subjected to safety analyses like environmental toxins or synthetic drugs. Virtually all research published in mainstream journals is focused on how essential nutrients heal organisms at the cellular level; which nutrients act together to bring about organ repair; and how they cause systemic healing when given in very high doses: Orthomolecular Medicine.
Toxicity studies basically do not exist for essential nutrients, with but few exceptions such as Vitamin A.
#2. In contrast, all synthetic drugs without exception are systemically toxic, meaning they are toxic to more than one body system as well as on a cellular level.
Re' Vitamin D.
It will depend on the definition of what is considered to be a deficiency and not just that of the development of rickets. I was basically referring to optimum levels of this Vitamin where the current consensus of professional opinion is at much higher levels than considered necessary for decades.
The Sun for example produces approx 20,000ius and more in the skin on exposure to UVB rays, and where the body will then prevent any further production to metabolites in avoiding toxicity.
Supplementation is therefore seen as a necessity in the absence of sunlight and at optimum levels in avoiding (amongst other things) 77% of all cancers.
We shall just have to agree to differ.
With all due respect.
