well to address the statement about the uniform size, he/she did say that they recently at tomatoes. I glanced at the salad my wife was eating last night and noticed the tomatoes were all sliced into wedges, each about the same size.

I'm not trying to start anything, but I truly believe that is tomato skin. there are several types of foods that have skin that are not digestible.
