coffee enemas are used in the Gerson cancer treatment protocol, and where the standard oncology joke was: "would u prefer cream or milk and with or without sugar".!!!

Max Gerson, MD, used this clinically as part of his detoxification regimen. The effects of caffeine, he thought, travel upward to the liver. He observed that his patients could go without pain-killers once on the enemas. Many people have noted a calming effect, but while coffee enemas can relieve constipation, Gerson emphasized: "Patients have to know that the coffee enemas are not given for the function of the intestines but for the stimulation of the liver."
German researchers in the 1920's claimed that a caffeine solution taken as an enema, stimulated the bile ducts in the production of bile from the Liver and had a cleansing effect.

Even the Merck Manual recommended coffee enemas until the mid-1970s !!!
