Re: New doctor--need advice

Hi! I am a 38 year old single mother about to have her thyroid removed. You need to ask your doctor for an ultrasound of your thyroid. It can detect cysts, even when blood tests are all coming back as normal. Here is my story:
It started in August of 2008 with trouble sleeping and concentrating, along with being cold all the time. Then, my son suddenly quit breastfeeding & my milk dried up in only 3 days. I went to the doctor, he ordered tests. All thyroid functions normal. He referred me to a psychiatrist.
By March of 2009, I had lost 36 pounds without dieting. I had a runny nose for about a month (very unusual for me). Also, started to have Acne breakouts that wouldn't heal- not infected, but just not healing. Went back to doctor, he tested my sores for staph- negative. Prescribed me Allegra for runny nose and cream for sores. Sent me home.
In July of 2009, I went to a different doctor. By then, I was constantly exhausted, skin pale, fingernails all broken off, lost another 15 pounds, had started having migraines, sores still not healing, nose still running, feeling cold enough to wear jeans and a sweater in the middle of summer, severe cramping of legs at night, but most troubling- I told the doctor how I felt I had a hard ball of phlem at the base of my throat/top of my lungs that I couldn't cough up. After he repeated asked me if I was on drugs, he said I had "post nasal drip" and needed to get more sleep. He gave me a sample of Veramist and sent me home.
In October of 2009, I went back to the 2nd doctor. I told him of how the nasal spray was having no affect on my symptoms and that they were in fact worse. I told him how I would cough all the time and sometimes I would not be able to "catch my breath". I added chest pressure and overall sensation of pain to my list of symptoms, as well as numbness of my fingers, stiff neck, . He x-rayed my lungs, said they were clear, but then said I had probably developed asthma from smoking so many years. He prescribed me an Abuterol inhaler and sent me home.
Finally, in December of 2009, I went back to the doctor's office. My doctor had left to go to another practice and my file had been given to a new doctor- a woman. I told her of how all my symptoms were simply getting worse. She reviewed my history and ordered a CT scan of my lungs. That was on the 10th of December, 2009.
I had a pulmonary fuction test and an ultrasound of my thyroid on the 16th. I met with the surgeon on the 23rd.
In two days, I go into the hospital to have my thyroid removed. They found dozens of fluid-filled cysts, but also found 4 solid and partially solid, "possibly malignant"cysts on my thyroid. They were measured at 0.9 cm, 1.5 cm, 2.1 cm, and 3.1 cm.
Other symptoms that should be noted- my pulse (which for the previous 36 years of my life has been 50 bpm) has risen to average 80 bpm. My blood pressure is up too.
Tomorrow I am going to my GYN and insisting on an appointment to get the Mirena removed. It is a good method of birth control- I am too sick, too tired, and in too much pain to have sex!
