Re: Florastor AND probiotic bacteria

Sad but real, Antibiotics damage the flora for life. You are right!!! Most probiotics are transcients, so they only offer benefits as long as you be taken them. Researchers have found that many probiotic strains can implant "in vitro" (in the lab) but these same strains have failed to implant "in vivo" (in real people). As far I know, there are a few strains which have implanted "in vivo". Some of them are LGG, V-299 and L Reuteri. Antibiotics damage the indigen gut microbiota and many of the strains never recover and other need months or years to show relative normal levels. IMO, Prebiotics are more important than probiotics because they feed your natural colonies. There are several technics to implant freindly bacteria in the gut, but any of them have gotten a real success. Fecal implants, probiotic enemas, etc. I think an intestinal candidiasis always come back because you lost the bacterias which keep it under control forever or were taken to a minimun. Since we don't have any way to replenish the gut with native flora, candida owns the gut walls without competition. I hope the medical field some day find the way to recover the intestinal flora which is damaged by drugs, unhealthy food, stress, etc. Anyway, your main focus should be to keep alive the bacterias which were able to survive in your gut and multiply them as much as you can...so far is the only hope we have. But keep in mind, you have to take antifungals to low the candida levels to a point where the gut walls have a chance to heal and allow freindly bacterias to conquer those areas again. The right program could be in this way: Antifungals and diet to kill the overgrow and keep candida under control enough time to allow the intestinal wall to heal and open a clear area for your own bacterias to implant. If you stop the diet and antifungals before all this process be completed, candida is back again. Candida multiply faster than bacterias do. As you may realize, it takes time, probably more than six months in most of us. Some people may need years....
Jorge.
