Its interesting that you were eating a predominantly raw diet before your appendix started giving you trouble. I found that I had the same sort of problems when I was a vegetarian, mostly raw food eater. I had what was described as a grumbling appendix, swollen, painfull, but my appendix never perforated.
When I changed my diet to mostly cooked vege and added meat and fish, my appendix returned to its normal state, and I haven't had a problem since.
I do not believe in the view that the appendix is a vestigial organ, I believe it has a purpose, we just aren't aware of quite what that purpose is yet. My theory is that it has a distinct position in our immune system, and its important to keep it. (this is just a theory).
