Re: Protien S or C deficiency

It sounds like your daughter may have Factor V Leiden. It is a blood disorder that is heriditary. It may not affect everydody in the family. A family member can be a carrier. This used to be called Deep Vein Thrombosis. It was named Factor V Leiden in the mid to late 1970's. It would be a good idea to see a hemotoligist. They will do a series of blood work to verify this. If she does have Facor V, her doctors can work with her of treaments. She will need to take asprin, plavix or stronger drugs to keep her blood thin so a clot doesn't occur. If she does have Factor V she does not need to be on any kind of estrogen (birth control). I am 44 years old and found our I have Factor V Leiden about 6 years ago. I had a major stroke 3 years ago. I have done exteinsive reasearch on factor V. There isn't much out there. My best advice is to see a Dr that is willing to do the blood work for facor V because is it quite expensive to do on your own. Very few Dr's have heard about or know about Factor V. Keep searching for one, they are our there. But find a good Hemotoligist, a dr that specilizes in blood.
