Some of these starter kits only last for 6 batches, you need proper kefir grains, they will last indefinately, as long as not contaminated with anything.
I got mine from ebay for just over £1 plus postage for around a tablespoon of grains. Or go on kefir forums and ask for grains.
It takes a few batches to get them really going, they are a bit slow to start with as need to recover.
Mine haven't grown that much yet, but only made few batches so far.
I had some grains a few years ago, and had loads of spare grains to give away.
Keep spare grains in little bit of milk in glass jar in fridge and rotate the grains you use, and extra grains can be frozen in small batches in case you need some at later date or for selling or giving away.
