Re: Herbal blend
So being adaptogens they should also balance all the hormones/all the Endocrine system?
They will help in hormone balance. But again there are other factors involved in hormone levels such as liver function, fat cell levels, other supplements, diet, tumors, etc. The adrenals help generate hormones when levels are low. If they are high then the liver is supposed to break them down. So balance is not from a single thing.
Did you say Ashwagandha raises dopamine levels?
No, DLPA raises dopamine. Ashwagandha stimulates the GABA receptors, which makes it calming.
Not too much i hope, i've heard of people who start gambling and all sorts with too much dopamine. But then it probably just balances it to normal levels?
Building blocks help the body to produce neurotransmitters, not to release them. The body generates and releases the neurotransmitters as needed. And yes, dopamine is involved in lot of addictions such as cigarettes, cocaine, runner's high....... Dopamine is not only a pain killer but also a motivator. It is what gets us up our buts and gets us to do what we need to get done rather than sit there like a couch potato. So we can get a little over motivated to repeat something we are doing. Dopamine can also be addictive as it helps to control pain. People can get addicted to pain killers because they deplete our dopamine levels leading to pain hypersensitivity and depression. So the drugs are needed to substitute for our dopamine. Drugs like cigarettes stimulate a dopamine release giving people an antidepressant feeling and motivation. Same with cocaine, but cocaine leads to a depletion of dopamine by blocking its reabsorption pumps at the synapse. This is why cocaine abusers often overdose in the long run. They take larger and larger doses trying to stimulate that dopamine rush, which will not happen the same way as the dopamine levels deplete from being oxidized and flushed faster than the body can produce it.
I feel a bit stressed at the moment, will these herbs calm me down. I'm assuming yes if they work on the adrenals. I just wondered if i will feel more chilled out quickly.
Yes, adaptogens help you to adapt to stressful situations. So you find you react less strongly to stressful situations. Ashwagandha not only helps to build the adrenals for this effect, but it is also directly calming since it stimulates the GABA receptors in the brain.
I can't seem to relax enough to study at the moment, i just can't seem to knuckle down, there is so much else going on. It doesn't take much to distract me.
Getting your adrenals built up will help with the stress, and raising your dopamine, with tyrosine or phenylalanine will help with motivation.
Anyway can't wait to try them, should arrive today. If i don't make candy as have no veg glycerine at the moment how else can i take them, in what?
I blend the herbs together then place the blend under my tongue, take a mouth full of water, swish the powder around and swallow. No fuss, no mess. It can also be mixed in a small amount of apple sauce or a small amount of juice. Just not a protein or fat source like yogurt as fats and protein can slow or block the absorption of certain things.
Between meals or just before a meal on empty stomach?
Before meals a minimum of 20 minutes before. For amino acids like tyrosine give it at least 30 minutes before eating.
