I boil the grounds directly in an old stove top coffee maker (percolator) and allow it to settle out. Then I slowly pour the coffee solution through a mesh filter -- one of those permanent "Mr Coffee" filters.

Then, when pouring into the enema bag I watch and try not to get any of the finer stuff that's settled out into the bag.

Mostly to avoid clogging the tubing or nozzle.
