Re: Cause of last 4 months of hell?
Dear JNURSE05,
I just had my Mirena removed yesterday from a different doctor than inserted it, no questions asked the different doctor thing was a complete non issue. I live in California and maybe laws are different where you live but any obgyn can take it out that is INSANE that they said you needed the same doc who put it in to take it out. It is a totally standard procedure that any obgyn will do even if it is the first time you are seeing that doctor. It is a bit uncomfortable for about 10 seconds coming out but NOTHING like the horror of getting it in. Get it out ASAP is my advice, I had nothing but horrible experiences on it and I am only a few years older than you (23). I feel amazing, like a load has been lifted and it has been only a little over 24 hours since I got that suc*** removed.
FOR ANYONE ELSE considering Mirena here is my advice after having it for 3 years:
1. Even after 3 years, my period was completely unreliable and although it made my periods lighter, they would often last up to 2 weeks! Prior to my IUD, my periods were 3-5 days.
2. Every couple of months I would get my period twice in one month! and again, this happened after having had it for over a year when it started happening. and these were FULL ON periods, not spotting.
3. The cramping involved in it's insertion is EXCRUCIATING and lasts about a week. I was literally in bed for days after. and then bled for a month straight. Getting it removed wasn't too bad though.
4. For the first 6 months or so, my boyfriend said he could feel it when we had sex and it was unpleasant for him.
5. I got a bazillion yeast infections during the time I had it in. Before getting it I had had 1 yeast infection in my life.
6. I gained quite a bit of weight. and changed the texture of my hair (not in a good way)
7. My period cramps were worse and PMS symptoms lasted a lot longer than before. I was literally either PMSing or on my period every day of the month.
8. I broke out after NEVER having
Acne in my life.
9. The only pluses I would say are that you don't have to take a pill everyday and I didn't have any accidental pregnancies.
Talk to your Doc about Nuvaring. I have several friends on nuvaring who say it is amazing and you need to replace that only once a month.
hope this helps some. Good luck!
