Re: Does anyone have continuing GI issues?
Hi Karita, I had the Mirena removed 18 mos. ago and was still suffering from GI issues. After lots of testing, they discovered I have a "high sensitivity" to dairy. Since I cut it out, it has made a huge difference. No more chronic gas or diarrhea. I've loved milk, yogurt, ice cream, etc. all my life and all of a sudden I can't tolerate it. It's so frustrating. Also, you are on the right track with the good vs. bad bacteria in the intestines. You may have candida (systemic yeast infection), which is what you were describing. There is a ton of info. on the web about it if you google it. There is also a forum here for those who suffer from it. They diagnosed me with it and I think I read a post here from someone awhile back saying they read somewhere that the Mirena can cause this. Anyway, from what I understand it's very difficult to get rid of it. You have to follow a strict diet of absolutely no carbs, sugars (even fruit) or processed foods. I'm also on a probiotic (promotes good bacteria growth) and I'm supposed to start a cleansing program pretty soon that my naturopath prescribed. On a side note: let me ask you this...have you taken a lot of
Antibiotics and birth control over the years?
Antibiotics kill not only the bad bacteria, but the good too. It disrupts the body's natural balance of good & bad bacteria. I was a sickly kid with chronic ear infections, bouts of bronchitis and tonsilitis. I was ALWAYS on
Antibiotics . And I took the pill for 10 years before starting a family. All of this combined made me susceptible to getting candida. I'm still in the learning process about all this, but let me know if you have any questions. Hope you start feeling better. Take care...Dutchmom
