Re: Excellent post
Hi mouseclick,
I studied your chart earlier and understood the difference between fast and the weight loss by right diet.
In early eighties I started my weight reduction program similar way, believing that the fasting will give me a flying start. So it did mainly the sudden loss of liquid out of my body initially. Because the intake of salts was nil, the body will react fast by not holding any excess liquid to dilute the excess salts.
One can keep functioning for some time, but the body needed “fuel” soon after. It will start using the stored fats, which was good and what I was aiming for.
However, as I was doing normal daily activities at work as well as jogging/running at dusk after work, the general level of electrolytes was running low and needed to be replenished.
On second week I started using mineral and vitamin supplements. Also I started lettuce/egg diet after run.
That is why I don't personally fawor water-only fast because the danger of too low electrolyte level. It will require constant monitoring during the fast if done correctly.
But how many would understand that very basic requirement?
My guess is: Not many!
The reasons I returned later back to “normal” wide variety eating were many. Firstly it gives me the best change to have all nutrients without going to the hunt for replacements in plant varieties for missing vitamins and minerals. (B12 for example)
Secondly my body clearly indicated the need of fats. I developed craving for fish and meat.
Then there is a social aspect, which wasn’t huge for me but still worth mentioning. Places visited will not always cater for vegetarians/vegans.
We often use word salt, but it would be more correct to use the word in plural, salts!
During my last three decades of life I have had hypertension.
Doctors said:”Reduce salt”!
So I did.
I vent to extreme, no added salt for any food, all the items from supermarket had to be as low salt items as possible.
Longer term result: My digestive system stopped functioning. Constant stomach cramps followed, finally chronic constipation hit me.
If one hasn’t experienced such condition they don’t know what they are missing!
I don’t know for sure, but it looks as I didn’t give my system enough salts for digestive acid formation in my stomach.
Sea salt fixed that problem and I guess many other needs of my body simultaneously as it has very good variety of essential minerals.
Of course one needs to use it only as required.
Fish (and other sea food) in my current food selection is there to supply primarily the omega-3, but also other needs like calcium for one.
As you can see I don’t wish to use word DIET for simple reason. If it’s a diet it will only last for limited time! Other words one has decided from start that after the diet is finished one can return to old habits!
Following my eighties reduction I changed my eating habits completely for rest of my life.
I had my BMI down to 22.2 in eighties, since then it has been higher due to life’s stressful turns. Now it is 24.5 and has been for while. It seems to be debatable should I go further down?
Some people (usually women) seems to hold an opinion that a man can’t be too thin!
Do I care what others think of my weight?
NOT REALLY.
Regards
