Providone iodine?

Is this ok to use topically for a period of time...thinking about putting it on the scalp bald patches. The bottle I have is from the drug store and really old.
Is there a fact sheet somewhere that I am missing that lists all the varieties of Iodine and what uses they are for like I still have no idea why some people use magnascent. Sorry if I am missing it.
