If you mix the right proportions of Vit. C and baking soda together, the baking soda is safe. That is becuase of the chemical reaction between the acid and the base. Carbon dioxide is produced and blown off and the sodium combines with the Vit. C creating sodium ascorbate, which is the neutral form of Vit. C. But, you be sure to mix well in a glass of water and let it stand a few minutes for the chemical reaction to occur. I recommend stirring it several times until there is no more reaction caused by the stirring.
