Re: Can Juicing help you lose weight???
Mom,
You'd be better off eating a couple carrots and an apple before the meal, rather than drinking them as juice. The pectin in the apple fiber is a terrific weight loss aid, and the fiber in the carrots will fill you up with fewer calories. Shred them into a appetizer salad, with a bit of flax seed oil and a squeeze of lemon.
Two 16 ounce glasses of juice are terrific -- but make them with a low glycemic food source. Celery, cabbage, broccoli, string beans, radish, whatever. In the summer, I juice basil and it is heavenly!
String beans & spinach are pretty strongly flavored, so mix them with a base of
Celery juice. Broccoli juice is really sweet. I juice the stems, leaves & crown, and mix it with lemon. Radish adds a nice spark but don't use too much. Cabbage juice should be taken in small quantities at first because it causes gas in some people. It is really tasty and has more vit. c than oranges!
Read up on glycemic load of foods. It is fascinating how the blood
Sugar reacts differently to seemingly similar foods.
