I just glanced in one of the books that I have for Anemia. There is alot of food that has iron it it.
Prescription for Nutritional Healing by James Baltch MD suggests a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses twice daily (for a child 1 teaspoon) in a glass of milk or formula twice daily.
Be sure to have in your diet: apples, apricots, asparagus, bannanas, broccoli, egg yolks, kelp, leafy greens, okra, parsley, peas, plums, prunes, purple grapes, raisins, rice bran, squash, turnip greens, whole grains, and yams. Also eat kfoods high in vitamin C to enhance iron absorption.

I don't know the answer your other questions. It must be heartbreaking to lose a child.
