Going on 32!
There are a lot of people, of a certain age, who are very quietly doing their own thing...keeping quiet while younger people catch up in their learning and doing.
The comments, "Oh, 'mother'," and, "Oh, 'dad," impress us strongly to not make suggestions. We remember the occasions we said those, too. They are an occupational hazard of the young.
Younger people have to go through those stages, I think...with their friends.
People of a 'certain age' usually just smile, think up-lifting thoughts, and wait quietly until their counsel is asked...for it will be. All roads lead to well-being.
The secret is the twinkle in the eye that tells there is no such thing as age. In later years people still feel in their prime...and sometimes act accordingly.
There comes a time when we may begin to lose physical strengths, one at a time, and it feels so odd.
If a person practices using that particular strength, they may not have to do without it...like pulling on ones socks, standing in the middle of the room.
A 92 year-old was given weight-lifting exercises appropriate to his current strengths...and the gentleman improved!
I think the body adjusts to the things you do.
A large truck driver was asked to lift a 10 pound weight which was attached to a pulley by a cord. He was to lift it using only one finger (a ring finger?), with his hand flat on a table, fingers extended over the edge, and the cord looped around one.
At first he couldn't do it, but, after a week of trying daily, he could!
An old yoga trick, exhale, gently and fully, on the exertion of a movement. That causes the next inhale to fill the entire lung area (instead of only the upper 1/5) with fresh air and the oxygen rushes to the muscles that were just flexed/used.
Another relaxing technique based on the same principle is to make the exhale a little longer than the inhale that preceded it.
Do you see why older folk are sometimes called 'wily'? We often know better ways.
Drop into a retirement home and ask anyone who smiles at you how to do something, particularly how they did it years ago.
The twinkle will flash!
There may be snow on the roof, but there is still fire in the furnace.
