Re: Questions about the safety of water fasting
Interesting... I was not aware of any deaths from fasting, however I must admit I have had concerns about "healing crises" and aborted my first fast at 27 days because of severely bad throat symptoms. For me also the jury is still out on hair loss on long fasts.
I think the bad symptoms on a fast are from detox, reason being that I have not had any on my latest 23 day fast having eaten healthily for 3 months, whereas my first 27 day fast did have rather bad symptoms.
Some people here are now doing juice fasts, which seems to lessen the detox symptoms. For me I don't think I would ever knowingly push myself so far as to get any real problems. I always listen to my body. In a way I am glad my fasts have never been supervised, because if someone told me to continue when things did not feel right for me, I would ignore my supervisor.
I limit my fasts normally to under 20 days. For weight loss this is fine. I probably wouldn't go much longer, I have tried on two occasions and it just doesn't feel right
