Maybe your little 'quirk' helps to take the "'seriousness' of it all" out of their situations.

I know that I really had to work at remaining grief-stricken at one time in my life.

I'd forget, in my sleep...then have to pull on my heavy black cloak, about half a second after waking up.

It was when I realized what I was doing, and thought it silly, that I began to come out of it.
