Iodine and Menstrual Cycle

I've been reading these forums for some time now, but this is my first post. After doing quite a bit of research, I began supplementing with Iodine (via Iodoral pills) in mid April. I built up to 50 mgs per day over the course of several weeks. Initially, I experienced about a week or so of detox symptoms, which salt loading helped to alleviate.

My question pertains to the effect of Iodine on the menstrual cycle. I have always had a relatively regular cycle; however, since taking iodine, my cycle has taken a rather strange turn. My cycle is gradually becoming longer (from 25-28 days to 30-32 days) and I have been experiencing brownish-pinkish spotting several days prior to my period, which seems slow to come. I have had quite a few clots during the last two periods. I am wondering if I am going through another detox period of sorts and my cycle/hormones are normalizing. I did (unfortunately) use birth control for 2 1/2 years and I have been off those evil buggers for a little over a year now. Since quitting the pill, my cycle was pretty normal and non-descriipt, until I started supplementing with iodine.

Has anyone else had any experience with this? I don't want to back off my dosage of iodine, because I am convinced that my body needs it, but I also don't want to screw up my hormones any further.
