Re: How safe & effective is Hydrocortisone for AF

Hi Deven & Scoobie - My cortisol and dhea levels are low, too. I am a 5 out of 7 on the ASI. My ND said that HC (Cortef) was probably the only thing that would help me at this point. I took 7.5mg one day and got an immediate headache. By the next day, I had the flu and was horribly sick for 10 days. I consulted the PDR and saw that HC is contraindicated for people with fungal infections. Well, I have chronic candidiasis. I refused to go back on Cortef and the doctor and I parted ways.

However, once I got recovered from the flu, I started to feel great. Amazingly great. My libido came back, I felt happy and energetic...and this awesomeness lasted for 3 full weeks, until a business trip stressed me out and I wound up back at square one. I'm pretty sure the Cortef was responsible for the jump in energy, zest, etc.

So I don't understand how it is said that HC only lasts a few hours in the body...mine lasted weeks. I have not had libido in 4 years and suddenly it comes back? I am sure it was the Cortef.

But I have not taken it since because I too am concerned about side effects and weight gain. I'm fat enough, thank you and don't want to gain an ounce more. Who is this doctor in Northern California, Deven? Does s/he have a website?
