Re: How safe & effective is Hydrocortisone for AF

I am still being treated for adrenal fatigue and low thyroid. I began with hydrocortisone, 25mg a day, and had no problems. This dose, or up to about 40 mg. is considered a physiologic dose, which means it is just replacing the normal dose that the adrenal glands would secrete. It is safe and will not stop the adrenals from working after you cut the dose or stop it. It is best to take the HC in divided doses, such as 15mg AM and then 10mg PM. As for myself, I switched from HC to medrol, which can be taken in one dose as it lasts almost 24 hours in the body. HC last just a few hours. Also the medrol can be more effective for various reasons. I am now gradually lowering my dose of medrol, and hope to stop it completely as I get better.
