My grandmother always said that all diseases start in the intestines. She was born in the late 1800s; so other theories have come into play. She is mostly right though. If the liver is sluggish and not producing enough bile, the intestines will also be sluggish and allow nasty things to take over instead of being flushed. She would always give us castor oil at the first sign of trouble.
