the problem will not be a shortage of food. the problem will come from a perception of a shortage or some other emergency that starts a panic. then it will depend if the powers that be are well served by the panic or not as to whether it makes the news.
there was panic gas buying and price gouging here in the midwest on 9/11. on that very day, gas reached $5 a gallon and the lines went for blocks. that kind of thing can be promoted or downplayed in the mass media. just like they pick what stories to tell us and what not today. the internet has a much broader perspective.
