I don't know why it forms the black particles, but I do know that one of the side effects when you drink Pepto is that it turns your poo black.

I had that happen to me and I thought I had blood in my stool, but it's the Pepto Bismol. I think there's even a warning on the label. But you can look it up, it's well known.
