Re: More questions about D/L-lactate and probiotics...
The best article I read about D-Lactate acidosis is at
http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/inside.asp?AID=2931&UID=
I tried to find a site that gave a comprehensive list of commonly used probiotic organisms that produce D-lactate. My search was in vain. I pieced together a small list from the 2 or 3 sites that mentioned it. In the following list L.= Lactobacilli
D-Lactate producing organisms: L. Fermenti, Streptococcus Bovis, L. Buchneri, and of course L. Acidophilus. This is by no means a complete list and I'm sure there are more.
L-Lactate producing organisms (you can consider these as safe): L. Salivarius, L. Rhamnosus, L. Casei, L. Plantarum, L. Sporogenes, any Bifidus or Bifidobacteria, and Saccharomyces Boulardi (a medical yeast that has been proven in clinical trials to help in the treatment of candida, and digestive problems).
I composed this list mostly by looking at the ingredients of Baby's Jarro-Dophilus, and Custom Probiotic's Special Blend for Autistic Children.
I have also found 3 brands of SBO's that contain no lactobacilli or d-lactate producing organisms. I have found that if I take one of these in conjunction with the special yogurt I make from Baby's Jarro-Dophilus, I get much better results. They are:
1. Flora Balance: contains one organism - bacillus laterosporus.
2. Nature's SBOs:produced by Live Renewed Life, contains 10 different SBO's, 2 of which are the main ingredients in Primal Defense - Bacillus Subtilus and Bacillus Licheniformis.
3. Floracol: Contains 30 different SBO's (only one of the ones listed in Primal Defense - bacillus subtillus) and digestive enzymes.
4. Royal Flora: Contains 5 different SBO's, 2 of which are the main ingredients in Primal Defense (Bacillus Subtilus and Bacillus Licheniformis). This product is only available from Canada and is quite expensive.
From my research I believe that Flora Balance, and Floracol are not nearly as potent as the other two.
As for books that have helped me, I like Cleanse and Purify Thyself One the best, even though the second volume also has some good information. The other books I feel have been very helpful are: "Restoring Your Digestive Health" by Jordan Ruban, "The Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook" by Jeanne Marie Martin, and "Conquering Yeast Infections - The Non-Drug Solution" by S. Colet Lahoz.
If you want to try a Program similar to Richard Andersons Cleanse but don't want to spend $175, you can purchase bentonite on the internet for as cheap as $10.00 a bottle. You only need 2 quart size bottles for an entire month. I also buy my psyllium seed for $5.00 a pound at the health food store. Use the P&B shakes 3 times a day, combine this with supplementing with Concentrace Minerals, a good Calcium Citrate/Magnesium supplement, and some Potassium Gluconate. Spirulina is also a good supplement and can be purchased very cheaply at iherb.com. Eat home made yogurt. You want to have at least 3 bowel movements a day. If you need help with this use a good herbal laxative from the health food store, or take some enemas. If neither of these seems to work well for you, the one product I would recommend trying of Richard Anderson's is Chomper. You can buy it in most health food stores (at least were I live) or through the internet. Hope that info helps.
Sincerely,
Ann
