I can tell you a freind of mine was a habbitual alcoholic, for 40 years.

He quit drinking and in two weeks he became very sick, almost to death.

It was H Pilori, then he took Helidac therapy, became plugged up and got colon cancer in a couple 2 or 3 months.

I "strongly suspect" the alcohol was keeping them at bay, he had them for years, per his symptoms.
