Re: Confused about acidic/alkaline killing candida
>> Ok, I've read (and read) that we should eat foods that create an alkaline condition in our gut, that candida thrives in an acidic condition
Which is true, in general our body should be alkaline to be healthy.
You can test this by buying simple litmus paper and putting saliva (or urine) on it. The ideal PH is 7.2, if you're acidic you're around 6 or lower.
>>Being too acidic is probably how we ended up with candida.
That's an oversimplification, but ok. It think everyone has a different path that got us here, but eating incorrectly is probably something we all share in common.
>>But, we are told to take acidic things to kill it, caprylic acid, etc.
Some acids, like kind found in fruit, are easily digested and create alkaline byproducts by the time they reach the gut. It's the alkaline byproducts that create health in the intestine and (in the long term) balance the intestinal flora.
